Donating with a Charitable Remainder Trust or Charitable Lead Trust

|

Whether a donor chooses to do a Charitable Lead Trust or a Charitable Remainder Trust is contingent upon the tax objective and the philanthropist’s intent of gifting of the corpus of the Trust. Both Trusts are usually funded with stock or real estate that have a low cost basis and have immensely appreciated. A Florida estate planning attorney would set up either Trust by funding with the donor’s appreciated assets. A donor is the individual who is making the donation to the charity and the corpus is the body of the Trust.

What sets the two types of Trusts apart is what happens to the corpus of the Trust after the set period of time set forth in the Trust or upon the death of the donor. If you desire to make a donation through a Charitable Trust, you may want to contact an experienced Florida Estate Planning Attorney such as Attorney Thomas Upchurch at (386) 272-7445 to set up a consultation.
